Natural resource prices increase as unsustainable consumption patterns continue

According to the International Resource Panel's latest report, ‘Decoupling 2: Technologies, Opportunities and Policy Options’, current consumption patterns are rapidly depleting the world’s non-renewable resources. The report suggests that the increased prices for metal, rubber and energy – which have risen by 176%, 350% and 260% respectively since 2000 – demonstrate that the negative effects of the unsustainable use of natural resources are already being felt.


New programme launched to increase sustainability of public procurement

The Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) Programme, a global initiative to assist governments redirect public spending into goods and services that bring significant environmental and social benefits, was launched on 1 April 2014. The Programme represents the first action under the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP). This is a global framework to facilitate international cooperation to develop, replicate and scale-up Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and resource efficiency initiatives around the world.
